Thirty-five homeowners have filed lawsuits against the builder of the homes, claiming defective construction.

The lawsuits are all aimed at KB Home, and they focus on three neighborhoods in the Orlando area.

Most of them are focused in the Stratford Pointe subdivision, which is just off Narcoossee Road near State Road 417.

Homeowner Jordan Potter said the cracks in her home are so bad, water seeped inside her home during Hurricane Irma. She's not alone.

"Water was getting into the family room," German Rodrquigez said.

Rodriguez and his family live right behind Potter.

"When you walked in the room, it was already smelling like humidity," he told News 6. "I had to hire people to paint the house and do the hall walls."

Rodriguez said he paid more than $2,000 out of his own pocket to make the repairs.

Potter and 18 of her neighbors decided not to pay the repair costs, and they filed a lawsuit against KB Home.

According to the lawsuit, the homeowners claim their homes were not built to Florida building codes. They said the stucco was not thick enough and the staples used were not long enough.

The lawsuit explains that the building defects have caused cracks, which are now letting water seep in and possibly causing mold.

Jordan told News 6 she hopes her lawsuit will help her and her family get results.

"Some of our neighbors have already had all of their stucco torn off their houses and redone," she said. "We’re hoping to get enough money to do that to our house, so that it’s done correctly."

KB Home declined to comment on the lawsuits.

According to court records, KB Home is now suing its stucco contractor.

The court docket shows some of the cases are heading to mediation this month.
